But When Towers Fall

       I scooped a little bit more goat feed into my tattered bucket, knowing that Noah wouldn't mind the extra treat. Besides, Percy, the other Nubian goat, always stole my pet's food anyway, so a little could go a long way. After dumping their food in the large metal hay feeder, I closed the barn and trudged back up the hill to my house. I was thinking of how to make my pet goats best friends when I heard the unfamiliar crackle of a TV set making noise in the house. Huh? We never watched TV and if it was on...that was weird. 

       I opened the front door, and the TV's noise nearly blasted away my eardrums. Taking the stairs two at a time, I panted into the living room to I sight I will never forget. 

       Mom stood, one hand cupping her mouth, the other clutching the cordless phone, her eyes wide. My brother and sister were sitting on the couch, staring mesmerized at the horror unfolding on the television set. 

       My mind was whirling, one second I had been feeding goats and the next I was watching an act of terror unfolding miles away in New York. The TV images blurred by, fire and smoke filling my mind's eye. The world seemed to stand still while two humungous towers collapsed. 

       12 years to the day and I haven't forgotten. Neither has the beloved country in which I live. Even now, a museum is being constructed on the sight of Ground Zero, commemorating the horrifically historic events of 9/11. Families and friends are recalling where they were on that fateful day, holding onto to the memories of loved ones lost.

We're a messy country, America.
We argue and fight over politics
Creating scandals and discord.

But when towers fall, we unite. 

We don't forget.
We believe in freedom
and the sacredness of life

And when towers fall, we stand.

We do not forfeit our rights
To let others take 
what is not theirs

When towers fall, we remember.

We honor our brave
and respect our everyday heroes
Placing flowers on graves
in reverence of those
who've made America
America.

    Beautiful blog and beautiful thoughts. Definitely something for all of us to remember, and to remember similar act of terror happen almost daily in other parts of the world. May God protect His faithful ones!

It's been a week and a half  since we landed in the Land of Enchantment. Yes, we're back! I gotta be honest. New Mexico is...different than England. Memorial Day:  A federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces.  ---- I recently got a text from a dear friend that reminded me that we all fight and serve a kingdom much more than the U.S.  Let me illuminate what I mean.  We humans live and die for a cause that is so much more than fighting in other countries for freedom.  We humans live and die for a cause that is so much more than our own peace and prosperity .  We humans life and die to bring about God's kingdom. Now, we may or may not be warring against physical forces,  but we all face and must fight against spiritual forces in our daily lives.  There are those of us who have lost loved ones in that cause,  or even know beloved friends and family on the front lines of this ongoing war.   I haven't lost a brother in the armed forces fighting for the United States of Ame...

Childhood dream! Okay, okay, so it's not Broadway. It's actually London's West End. But that doesn't mean it doesn't count. You remember those childhood dreams you wrote down in your diary? The entries that read something like, "When I'm older (older, meaning 12) I want to travel to Australia and see a live Koala..." or the simpler entry you, age 12, wrote about becoming a grown up "I want to be a brain surgeon someday." I've never been to Australia. And that's okay with me. I can't discount things I've experienced in my lifetime just because they don't exactly meet my diary criteria. I remember going to the Albuquerque Zoo with my family and seeing a live Koala for the first time.
